Speech Privacy Systems Produce A Better Working Environment

by Frank Barnett

Speech privacy systems offer many advantages in the busy and often noisy office. Such offices have additional stress for harried employees as well as inhibiting the private exchanges that may be required for office security and proprietary information.

A noisy environment interferes with the ability to hear and to think, impairing productivity. The generation of white noise or sound masking is one of the methods for controlling the problems of noise and dearth of privacy. White noise mitigates ambient noise and controls the distraction of background voices.

When you work in an open office environment, the other people in the office can hear what you are talking about. Obviously, this is a reason to have a speech privacy system. It is a fact that the noise of other conversations make it hard to concentrate and cause less work to be done. More work can be done if the distractions are removed.

Today's revolutionary technologies allow speech privacy systems to both provide privacy and decrease the ambient noise from office apparatus and human speech. The latest tools are much quieter and better sounding themselves than the previous ones.

Some of the benefits of speech privacy systems may not be obvious at first glance, but studies show that distracting noise also causes more repetitive stress injuries because distracted workers are less likely to make adjustments to their environment than those who perceive a quieter workspace environment. Workers in quieter or noise controlled offices are also more likely to take on difficult problems and to solve them.

The open office concept has many advantages in cost effectiveness and accessibility, but the major drawback has been ambient noise. Fewer walls mean fewer natural sound barriers so modern technology is needed to adjust for this drawback. Modern sound masking does this job.

Today's technology allows effective sound masking while music or other pleasant sounds play in the background. Speakers used to mask sound can also play music or serve as paging systems. The increased productivity of your workforce will more than pay for the cost of a sound masking system.
